WP Chamber Choir
Chamber Choir at William Paterson University
The William Paterson University Chamber Choir is a highly advanced ensemble of 24-34 auditioned singers from several majors across the university in addition to music. The ensemble performs a wide range of traditional to contemporary choral literature, including new compositions by emerging composers. In addition to its own repertoire, the Chamber Choir sings combined works with the Concert Choir, Men’s and Women’s Choruses, the Internationally recognized Jazz Orchestra, University Orchestra, WP Opera, and Pop Vocal Ensembles. The Chamber Choir will tour internationally in 2018 to Austria and Italy, singing Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican, St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, and a full High Mass at the State Cathedral in Salzburg, conducted by head Domkapellmeister, János Czifra. In addition, the choir will perform as the Chorus in this spring’s fully staged production of Dido and Aeneas with WP Opera. With a focus on small consort singing and preparation the Chamber Choir is dedicated to performing both traditional and contemporary secular and sacred choral literature to the highest standards –- a necessity for the twenty-first century vocalist.
Chamber Choir rehearses Monday 11:00-12:50 pm, Wednesday 11:00-12:25 pm, and Thursday 10:00-10:50 am. The ensemble performs in several concerts a year both on campus and throughout the community. This Chamber Choir tours regularly throughout New Jersey and surrounding states, and internationally every third year. They have also been selected to perform at the 2018 New Jersey Music Educators Convention. Seniors, majoring in choral music education, are often asked to conduct on concerts as part of their degree preparation in addition to serving as section and consort leaders.
The Chamber Choir is directed by Lauren Fowler-Calisto with assistance and coaching by Warren Helms.
